A twisting tower for the 2012 NYC Olympic

Olympic Tower was designed in the Fall of 1999 while Mr. Shine was completing his masters degree in architecture at Yale University. The images below show a few of the original images from the development of the tower a decade ago.

The tower embodied a unique combination of element that had never before been combined into a single design, as detailed below. The 90 story building twisted one degree per floor and was supported by an exterior diagonal grid.
Large structural model, showing a single column grid surface and every 10th floor plate.
Detail section of the large structural model.
Inspiration for the facade.
Final model of the facade, showing window patterning on a 20-story section.
Final model, as seen from 4 different angles.

Photomontage of the facade.
Artistic rendering of the tower. The twist was intended to make the tower appear taller.
